Player Profile

 Chris Smith

Position: Goalkeeper

Season 09/10: Chris had an excellent season in 08/09 picking up the John Stacey award. Smith will miss most of this season due to personal reasons, he has made the trip over to the famous Cottonwood de tucson, Arizona a world-renowned drug and alcohol addiction clinic. After hitting the bottle at the end of the season after some dodgy keeping notably in the cup final where he gifted Bemerton Heath the victory. It was also smith who made the Lions turn the corner last season with some stunning performances. A few crucial saves at the end of the top of the table clash against West Harnham, saw Whiteparish beat their closest rivals in the title race. That was the start of something special in the history of Whiteparish finishing first in the league only dropping two points in the last game of the season. Chris is renowned for his ability to make the easy saves look extremely hard at times, but manages to pull off wonder saves when needed.

 Daniel Barnes

Postion: RWB

Season 09/10: Daniel found it difficult to secure a place in Sean O'Donnell's starting 11 last season, through missed games and poor performances, there has been little reason to suggest he is worthy of that much coveted Right Wing Back position. Many critics have been calling for the former youth team player to call it a day and hang up his boots. Whether barnes has been listening to those critics or not he has decided to play a bit-part role this season, replacing Sean O'Donnell as joint first team manager for this current season. Although Barnes will still be doing his part on the field filling in when needed. Daniel can explode down the right flank and whip a dangerous ball into the box. Some pundits have compared him to the likes of Cafu and his boy hood idol Jason Dodd, he is also hoping to find his shooting boots this season after scoring NO goals last term. As a schoolboy, Barnes regularly attended matches at The Memorial Ground to watch his father Billy Barnes play in the famous shirt, Geoff Dear then took Barnes into the youth team and he signed professional forms for his local club in July 1999, along with Matthew Goodland. He was initially played as a forward but as other players caught up with him, it became clear to first-team manager Stuart Dear that his future in football lay as a defender. He gradually made the right-back position his own over the next few seasons. He was recognised as a tough-tackling defender who loved to venture forward. Daniel recently broke off his engagement to Charlotte Church after a string of affairs with "it" girls. But has seemed to have settled down with new flame Sam Austreng. Although daniel has not been seen this season as fellow manager Tim Mundy stated Daniel has been abroad doing his coaching badges and has also been viewing some of our top transfer targets.

 Tim Mundy

Position: Centre Back

Season 09/10: Armed with elegance, pace and an incredible reading of the game, Tim Mundy is undoubtedly one of the finest defenders in world football. In May 2006, Mundy signed a new seven-year contract with the Lions until 2013. Just six days later he went on to win the Stonehenge Cup, in Amesbury with the Red and White army. Last season saw him score on the opening day of the season with a thunderbolt of a penalty, but then saw him shipped out on loan to Sydney F.C where he enjoyed some of the best football of his career. As a result of the Farley Football youth setup Mundy made his switch to the Parish in 2002 after a short stint with South Newton. He made his debut as a substitute coming on as a left winger where he went on to play for the rest of the season. The next season saw Mundy last 55 minutes of the opening game getting nailed and suffering a broken arm. But returned in January where he went on to play every game for the rest of the season picking up 2 goals for all his efforts.  His distribution was somewhat wayward and his crosses when going forward rarely reached their intended target. Nonetheless, he rapidly gained a cult status amongst Parish supporters for his whole-hearted commitment to the club and his dedication to the cause. Unfortunately, he gained a poor reputation amongst officials, and regularly received yellow cards for challenges which were deemed to be outside the rules, but is yet to be sent off. Like many defenders, he scored several own-goals, the most spectacular being in a 1–3 defeat away to Durrington WMC when he made a diving header at the near post and put the ball past his own goal-keeper Richard Harrison; a goal any forward would have been proud of. Mundy has now made a spectacular return as joint manager along side Daniel Barnes.

 Stuart Dear

Position: Centre Back

Season 09/10: He started his football career in 1980 with Whiteparish. Dear is widely regarded as one of the toughest defenders of his era. Dears solidified his reputation as an uncompromising - yet talented - defender with a series of strong (and sometimes notorious) performances.  That 2007 stonehenge cup final is notorious for being one of the most physical of all time, and it saw Dear come into his own in the role of both inspirational leader and uncompromising tackler. With New Sarum having taken a 2-1 lead at Amesbury with just twelve minutes remaining, it was his quick free kick which led to Gavin Cockman's equaliser. His late tackle on New Sarum's playmaker Dave Kearney after just eight minutes (just one of many late tackles committed by both sides) left the latter a virtual passenger for the rest of the match: Whiteparish eventually won 3-2.He played over 500 games for the Parish, before briefly becoming player/coach. He became quickly infamous for his brutal "hard man" image, which frequently brought much criticism of his style of play. He was sent off 12 times in his career.  Whiteparish chairman Sir John Stacey branded Dear a "mosquito brain." In spite of this, Dear could not stay out of trouble. He ended the career of a Nomansland striker in 1998 which he received a four match ban for.  "The FA have given me a pat on the back. I've taken violence off the terracing and onto the pitch. He was convicted of assaulting a neighbour in 1998.

 Charlie Evans

Position: Centre Back

Season 09/10: Evans signed a four year contract deal with the club he supported as a boy in September 2007. Charlie has just finished his best season of his career scoring 4 goals in total. But last season also saw the worst in charlie, after his drinking started to spiral out of control, usually having to be pulled away from groups of supporters after mocking charlie on his performances. Although Charlie is the youngest member of the squad, he has had a number of disciplinary issues. At times, Charlie finds it difficult to keep his emotions at bay and is often found lashing out at opposing players. Charlie's found it difficult adapting to the pace of the Sunday morning pub league football and is thought to be working hard in training to improve his pace, this is further improved on by playing regular reserve team football on a saturday afternoon.

 Daniel Lumber

Position: Sweeper

Season 09/10: A dominating display last season from the "big man" central-defender. Lumber was noted for his aggressive and highly-competitive style of play which saw him take the managers player of the season. After some outstanding performances notably against West Harnham where he was playing alongside Tim Mundy and Charlie Evans. Lumber missed out on the chance to be made vice captain by Barnes and Mundy after he was questioned about his commitment to the cause. With the on going saga of the sulky centre back threatening to walk out on the club. He made headlines in the league match between Alderbury and Whiteparish. Five minutes from the final whistle, he was sent off for a blatant knee-high foul on the opposing Leo Inahalo, in what was seen by many as an act of revenge. He has said that he did not even wait for the referee to show him the red card, merely walking off the pitch into the changing room's. He initially received a three game suspension and a £5,000 fine from the FA, but further punishment was to follow after the release of Lumbers autobiography in August 2006, in which he stated that he intended "to hurt" Inahalo. However, it isn't Daniels violence that has continuously got him in trouble. Referee Mike Day commented that he knows when it is going to be a difficult match regarding Daniel, he remarked the longer the stubble on his face, them more he whinged. Daniel is a player that will try and beat 3 players before clearing the ball to safety, this is something only few players in the Whiteparish team can achieve and Daniel isn't one of them.

William Cranmer

Position: Left Back/Wing

Season 09/10: With the Parish losing their first two games of the season, something had to be done with Mundy and Barnes under increased pressure from the board and fans Barnes sent the whiteparish scouts on a mission to find a player with something new, something special. Tom Mundy knew exactly where to start, he came up trumps This player was William Cranmer, after having played with Cranmer the season  before he knew what he was all about and recommended him to the parish managers. After a medical which Cranmer just scraped through by the skin of his teeth, Cranmer found himself lining up for the Parish in the famous red and white shirt, which many greats before him have stood there with the deafening noise coming from the Lantern End. Cranmer's debut was 10 seconds away from being a victory, but Wilton were there to spoil the party. Cranmer's next two matches saw him score 3 goals. One directly from a corner and the other a stunning 40 yard chip. Cranmer transfer to the parish will go through at the end of the 2009/10 season for an undisclosed fee.

 Robert Males

Position: LWB

Season 09/10: After another breath taking season from the flying leftback nicknamed "bald-zinho" males won over plaudits hearts with some dramatic play. At the start of the season Males was handed the opportunity to captain the side in a number of pre season friendlies. He has now been named the clubs vice captain. During his childhood years, Males began his career as a striker for Luton town's youth system. Though he never received a professional contract, he was spotted by a scout for small english-side Gillingham, eventually receiving a contract with the club.  Males signed for Whiteparish on 10 January 2000, joining for a transfer fee of around £5.5 million from Nomansland putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract Males's arrival signalled Stuart Dears intention to shore up a Whiteparish defence that had suffered since the sidelining of Adam Jewell. During his first meeting with the club after signing, he asked captain David Stacey where the nearest church was. Males became a key member of Whiteparish's defence. Though making 47 appearances in all competitions, the highest in his career, he did not manage to score a goal. Spite this success, a battle with Alcoholism (which started in the mid 1990s) increasingly blighted his life as he was reportedly often involved in fights in nightclubs. On 6 May 2006, Males crashed his Ford sierra into a wall near his house in Whiteparish, and when breathalysed he was found to be more than four times over the legal drink-drive limit. On 19 December that year, at Salisbury Crown Court he was imprisoned for four months (being freed after half of his sentence on 15 February 2007) but after being released, his alcoholism continued and he was involved in further alcoholism-related incidents, including playing through a match during the 06/07 season despite being hungover, falling down stairs and needing 29 stitches to a head wound, and letting off fire extinguishers with team-mate Tim Mundy in a Pub where they were being taunted by supporters of rival clubs. But this season has seen Males turn a corner in his life, his performances have been some of the best in his career. Although his emotions get the better of him, last season saw Males hit with a 10 match ban after lashing out at an opposing player, and was abused by sections of the crowd at the cup final defeat against Bemerton Heath many say this was how the Lions lost the match. Males took this criticism on board and later found himself edging closer back towards his alcohol addiction.

 Joe Hope

Position: RWB

Season 09/10: After a great debut season the Lightning winger picked up the top prize of becoming the Whiteparish's Players player of the year. He featured in most of whiteparish's games last year only scoring 2 goals. Hope has fitted into the squad nicely, his team mates hammering him for looking like Andy Murray. Joe was signed at the start of last season after scouts spotted him playing in an oxford league, where his consistent performances helped his team win the league. Joe's first goal for the Whiteparish Lion's came in the 9-2 drubbing of Winterslow. Joe is a player that gets the job done with minimal fuss. It took the "boy wonder" all season before he finally  purchased a pair of red shorts. The only lowlight in Hopes debut season was his cup final performance many questioning if he was even on the pitch. Since then hope has struggled for form often being replaced. Fingers crossed he can regain his form and can make good progress.

 Sean O'Donnell

Position: Centre Midfield

Season 09/10 After a great season as whiteparish's player/manager O'Donnell was sacked after the tapping up row over Laverstock play maker Elliot Wykes. Since then O'Donnell was cleared by the F.A and was able to resume his managerial role. O'Donnell will probably go down in the history of the club as being the most successful manager, after going through the whole season undefeated in the league only dropping two points on the last day of the season. And taking the Lions to the charity C cup final. After joining whiteparish in 2006 he soon became a cult hero. O'Donnell has been a keen Rangers fan since childhood. Many pundits have described his play much the same as Duncan Ferguson, When not affected by those, his strength and stature made him a potent player. These characteristics earned O'Donnell a reputation as one of the most difficult players to defend against in the Division 2. Players such as Stuart Dear and Tim Mundy have both named O'Donnell as their toughest opponent when playing against Whiteparish for Harnham. Whiteparish were struggling under the management of Stuart Dear and looking for options to reinvigorate their faltering season. The solution was to take one Harnham player on a season long deal. In which O'Donnell captured both the managers player of the season and the players player award. He was the driving force behind the winning cup side of 2006. The dubious notable of O'Donnell's 2007–08 season was his sending off against Victoria Hotel for violent conduct. His confrontation with 'Nelly' resulted in a total match–ban of seven games and saw O'Donnell’s Sunday League red–card count reach eight, equalling Stuart Dears record. Haywood later claimed that he had sworn at O'Donnell in his native language and that the Whiteparish man's punch "was a nice punch". O'Donnell has frequently found himself in trouble with the law. This has led to four convictions for assault; two arising from taxi–rank scuffles, one an altercation with a fisherman in a Salisbury pub and the most infamous: his on–field confrontation with GoalKeeper Phil McKrackin in 2007 while playing for Whiteparish with a horrendous two footed lunge 2 mins after the keeper collected the ball.

 Daniel Burchmore

Position: Centre Midfield

Season 09/10: After a poor 08/09 season "tubby" as he's know by his team mates found it difficult keeping his first team place, still battling with food and sexual health problems Daniels confidence resulted in hitting an all time low. Daniels home life also hit rock bottom a few weeks ago after being thrown out by his girlfriend after having a massive bust up. The reason behind the falling out is thought to be that a number of Whiteparish players disrupted Jenna sleeping, as she tried to catch up on some much needed sleep after her night shift at Salisbury District Hospital. Daniel is reported to be seen on his hands and knees outside their Wilton Road flat, screaming Jenna's name at the top of his voice. After much promise as a youngster at Downton and Bermerton Heath, Daniel failed to live up to the early expectation, which resulted in a Bosman free transfer to Whiteparish. Daniel has battled with drink and food problems, often being caught in the early hours of the morning outside Chick 'o' Land. The most noticeable incident was in 2006 when England were knocked out of the world cup. Daniel was seen stumbling into the Dragon Restaurant with minimal clothing on. He was having difficulty transferring the food from the buffet table into his takeaway tray, he quickly got frustrated and opted to use his hand instead. At the time this landed him in hot water with manager Tim Mundy, who later punished Daniel with community service at 5 Rivers Leisure Centre. Last year, a story was leaked to the Salisbury Journal which was printed on the front page regarding Daniels sexuality. It has now been confirmed that Daniel is infact a homosexual. Also last year Burchmore was found on the floor of his flat with a number of pills by the side of him after struggling with depression after this recent tabloid story. Police are unsure whether this is a suicide attempt or the remains of his saturday night. However when Daniel does play well, he has a talent's that others dream of having. His ability to make a shot look like a cross is second to none. His Cruyff turns often land him in trouble when the easy option would have been a pass. Burchmore has not been seen on the football pitch or at the training ground since January with speculation starting to circulate that's he's been sent to a top secret facility to deal with his drug and binge eating disorders.

 Nick Lumber

Position: Centre Midfield

Season 09/10: Nick "sick note" Lumber's commitment to Whiteparish on a sunday morning has been in question after a string of missed games to manage a below par ladies team. only making 4 appearances for the Lions last season. However, on the rare occasion Nick did actually turn up his performances were often superb. He never shines but he never lets himself down, always ready to put in a steady shift. He is quickly progressing into a mature player which many can aspire to be like. Recent rumours to have surfaced are that Nick may quit the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. Nick somehow managed to find himself in the starting 11 for the Lions in their cup final, sicknote was reported to have said "i'm as surprised as anyone!" Three years ago he was awarded the much coveted 'Tim Mundy's man of the match award' for the Stonehenge Cup Final against New Sarum. Lumber has only featured 3 times for the parish this season due to injury.

 Jonny Lamb

Position: Left Midfield

Season 09/10: This season is to be Lambs first for the club after signing on a free last month. This is Lambs second stint with the club after Stuart Dear handed the Hampshire born player a trial which he failed to impress in. Lambs football career began with his hometown team, Southampton, whom he signed for as an 11-year-old in 1997. He broke into the Under 12's first team during his first season at the club, and quickly established a reputation as one of the top youngsters in English football, being mentored by Matt Le Tisser. He spent three years at The Dell , before being released. Farley soon snapped Lamb up and put him straight into the academy where he was coached by the famous youth team manager Mike Carter. After leaving Farley at the age of 17, Jon decided to join Sparsholt where he played a season as a left midfielder later being moved to left back. Jon then took time out of football for 4 years after meeting current girlfriend Hayley Dawson. Many have said Hayley doesn't like being apart from her man and refused to move to whiteparish because the shopping wasn't very good so refused to move from Newbury. Lamb chose to keep her happy and tried getting himself a new career, he started his search in film which didn't take off he was cast as the main character in Green Street, but was quickly replaced after not being mean enough, although he did make a very quick appearance in an adult movie but was also shown the door. Next on the career path was as a strip club owner but after rumours of him bedding the employees his "wife" made him sell the bar. So after 2 years out of work and constantly in trouble Jon decided to get back into football. Lets hope Jon wont end up like his two previous career moves and he manages to do well for the club especially after being handed the Parish's famous number 7 shirt. Lamb has been reduced to starting only half of whiteparish's games this seaon and having to come off the bench due to some outstanding performances from Cranmer and Males, although Lamb is starting to rediscover his golden left foot.

Jody Rivers

Position: Striker

Season 09/10: His July 2009 arrival at The Memorial Ground may have raised a few eyebrows, but former Bemerton striker Jody Rivers is undoubtedly one of the finest goalscorers in the history of the Salisbury and District League. The Salisbury-born forward notched up more than 200 goals for Bemerton and Royal Oak, plus 40 goals in 89 Laverstock prior to signing for Sean O'Donnell's men. Rivers burst to prominence at his boyhood side, Bemerton, where he scored on his first-team debut aged just 17. His lightning pace, untraceable movement and clinical finishing made him a  League revelation. Jody’s contract expired in the summer of 2009, at which point Barnes and Mundy swooped to sign the famed goal-poacher on a free transfer, after rave reviews from head scout Tom Mundy, offering him a two-year deal. He got his Parish career off to the perfect start with a  goal on his competitive debut. Rivers pounced on a loose ball after Lamb had been tackled in the area and coolly slotted home. River's season has been solid this year with him being used as mainly a utility man having played as a striker, centre midfielder, right/left midfielder, right/left back and even having to pull on the goalkeepers shirt.

 Richard DaCosta

Position: Centre Back

Season 09/10: When called upon "Jazz" was there to fill in and do a great job for the Lions, armed With pace, industry, creativity and exquisite timing on the run, Dacosta was described by Whiteparish manager at the time Stuart Dear as being "ten years ahead of his time". His versatility was such that while he was in the reserves on a saturday he played in every position in the team, including goalkeeper! Dacosta came through the productive ranks at Whiteparish after signing as apprentice in 1988. He made his debut on Easter Sunday in 1990 against Alderbury. Dacosta flitted in and out of a strong Whiteparish side over the years, and was consequently  selected for the Stonehenge cup final of 2006 at Amesbury, in which Whiteparish beat New Sarum 3-2. The following year, however, he established himself as a first team regular. At the age of 30, Dacosta's career at the highest level is still alive being an important squad member but injury has ruled out the impressive utility man for at least 8-9 months as a result of this Dacosta's testimonial as been changed to the end of the season. Richard will sadly miss the whole of the 09/10 season due to hamstring injuries.

 David Stacey

Position: Striker

Season 09/10  Finished on a high at the end of a great season for 'Mr Whiteparish' after the opening of the David Stacey soccer school in Kenya, Stacey lifted the league trophy for The Lions leading by example after scoring 17 goals. Usually known simply as Stacey and nicknamed goal a game, plays as a striker. Stacey began his career, aged seven, at Farley football club before moving to successful spells at Downton and Bemerton Heath before finally arriving at Whiteparish for an undisclosed fee in 1999.  Parish fans celebrate Stacey by chanting "St-ac-ey, St-ac-ey" to the tune of the Whiteparish church bells. On 19 January, after scoring twice against Alderbury, the fans sang, "Stacey, Stacey, give him the ball, and he will score". He was involved in a controversial incident on 22nd January in which he clashed with teammate Gavin Cockman seven minutes from the end of a 5–1 Stonehenge cup semi-final defeat to The Ale House. He is considered one of the club's greatest players of all time by the club's own fans and was included in the Salisbury and District league 100 legends. Nicknamed "Mr. Whiteparish", he was honoured by Whiteparish with a testimonial game against Sherfield in Sep 2008 with many Whiteparish legends playing, including Adam Jewell and Stuart Petty. Dear stuck by Stacey following his confessions about his drink problem, and the improvements in the regime probably extended Stacey's career by several years. Stacey rewarded his manager's understanding handsomely, captaining the club to the stonehenge cup win against New Sarum where he also scored the first goal, and still to this day remains the club captain.

 Craig Wallington

Position: Striker

Season 09/10 Another good season for wally hitting 20 goals in all competitions, but still letting the image of his club down. the self proclaimed member of 'whiteparish's Golden Boyfriends' club, is constantly fighting alcohol issues, recently being done for drink driving. He Started his whiteparish career with a substitute apperance at Wilton only lasting one minute of the game after having to come off with an eye the size of a golf ball perhaps this is the bump to Craigs head which has turned him into one of the games most colourful characters. In a recent interview with Sean O'Donnell he was quoted as saying  "He's an outstanding player but he gets frustrated when things aren't going right. You can't take that out of him because it's part of what makes him so determined to win. He's got fire." His anger has got himself into hot water with the club and the F.A after squaring up to a fan who was shouting abuse from the touchline. Many people believe this is down to craigs expensive lifestyle and late night drinking and gambling sessions! His track record is not the best with a string of run-ins with players and managers and with constant reports in the press about his involvement with hookers can only mean one thing that wallington is on his way back into rehab. He has had 15 stints at the top hampshire clinic already for sex, drugs, drink, gambling, porn and stealing pants off peoples washing lines addictions. His start to the season though has been impressive with wallington chipping in with a hatful of assists and contributing with goals galore!

 Elliott Wykes

Position: Striker

Season 09/10  O'Donnell's first signing after being put back into the managerial hotseat, Wykes' first appearance came when the parish played St Annes in the semi final of the Pete Fardell cup. He impressed the travelling supporters with a sensational hatrick, and also stepping up to see home parish's first penalty in the shoot out which they went on to lose.
