 Barnes hails quality of O'Donnell

Whiteparish boss Daniel Barnes praised Sean O'Donnell after the makeshift defender played through the pain barrier in the 4-2 win over Victoria Hotel. O'Donnell has been struggling with a groin injury but had an outstanding game in the centre of parish's defence after Barnes decided on the journey to the game to start with him. "You could see he was not 100% fit, but sometimes 80% of Sean can make a difference," said Barnes.  He was taken off after 85 minutes with Barnes not wanting to risk aggravating an injury that has limited the amount of training the lad was able to take part in ahead of the match. "I talked with Sean on the coach, and that was when I was really convinced that he could play," said Barnes. "In the morning I had decided that he would be involved, but I needed convincing he could start rather than just be a substitute. "Playing Sean was a difficult decision. He was not training, the same as Jonny Lamb. "But after talking with him we decided it was better to start the game with him. "We had to be very careful with him, that is why we took him off near the end. "I wasn't really at my best," he told the Whiteparish website. "We knew before the game I couldn't play to 100% because I had some pain in some actions, but in games like this the pain doesn't matter. There is speculation that Whiteparish could be forced to sell O'Donnell to help their financial situation but the club's managing director Jacko Read eased any such concerns for the fans. "O'Donnell signed an extension to his existing contract during the summer," Read told The Salisbury Journal. "He has a five-year contract. He is a crucial leader in our team. He loves Whiteparish football club. "Sean O'Donnell and Whiteparish go together and I believe will do so for the length of his career." Read also insisted that midfielder Daniel Burchmore, who has been linked with a move out of the Memorial Ground, will be staying at the club and not following Brendan O'Brian, who moved to George and Dragon in July, in exiting Whiteparish. "No, it's absolutely not true," when asked if Burchmore was keen to leave Whiteparish. "He is in my judgement the leading central midfield player at the club. It is inevitable that big clubs will covet a player of that quality. "We also had another central midfield player coveted by another major Salisbury team during the summer and he left us. "We sat down with Daniel at the time. He reasserted his total commitment to Whiteparish. "He is a hugely important player for us and a leader."

 Parish chief surprise over charge

Whiteparish Football Club's chief executive has said he is "astonished" over plans to charge him with cheating the public revenue. Rob Harris was arrested in 2007 on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting. He believes the charge relates to the transfer of Kaivan Storr in 2003. HM Revenues and Customs said it intended to charge Mr Harris, but the details are yet to be finalised. A spokesperson added: "We have notified his legal representatives that we have taken the decision that we will charge. "Specific charges and dates are to follow." Mr Harris said in a statement he was "confident that he will be exonerated".

The statement, issued on his behalf said: "Mr Harris would like to place on record his astonishment at the decision that has been made to charge him with an offence of cheating the public revenue, and bewilderment as to how such a conclusion could be reached concerning the transfer of the player Kaivan Storr to Whiteparish Football Club. "At the time negotiations to acquire this player were concluded, Mr Harris was on honeymoon in Exeter and was not directly concerned in the agreement that was reached regarding Storr's acquisition." The statement said he was confident he would be cleared of any suggestion anything untoward took place concerning any transfer dealings in which he was concerned. "Mr Harris now welcomes the opportunity he will have of clearing himself of these allegations to ensure that his unblemished 20-year reputation in football management remains untarnished. "He will use all available means to bring these proceedings to their proper conclusion as swiftly as possible."

Whiteparish FC also released a statement. "The owner, Sir John Stacey, the executive board and senior management of Whiteparish Football Club remain fully supportive of the club's chief executive officer Rob Harris," it said. "The club has been fully co-operative with all enquiries from all parties. "We will help in any way possible in assisting Robert to defend the allegations and to help clear Rob's name at the earliest possible opportunity. "Robert Harris has been a respected figure in football for 20 years and a key figure in the rise of Whiteparish Football Club in becoming an established club during his seven years' service."

Manager Barnes admits F.A charge

Whiteparish joint manager Daniel Barnes has admitted a charge of improper conduct for his comments on referee M.Poultons fitness. Barnes made the remarks about Poulton after the 5-5 draw with Wilton on 27th September and has requested a personal hearing with the Football Association. The 25-year-old, who later apologised to Poulton, could face a hefty fine or a touchline ban from the FA. The referees' union Prospect has called for Barnes to be banned. Spire F.M sports news correspondent Gordon Farquhar said: "The improper conduct charge seemed inevitable given the anger among Poultons colleagues and the FA's determination to promote respect for game officials. "The Parish manager admitted in match programme notes that he'd been angry with his team's performance that day, and that he thought Poulton was a good referee. "He'll now have the chance to explain his remarks in person. A touchline ban of some kind seems the most likely outcome." Following parish's draw with Wilton at The Memorial Ground, Barnes was hugely critical of Poulton. "The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit," fumed Barnes. "He was not fit." He later said he was sorry for any personal embarrassment caused to Poulton, claiming the comments were to highlight "what I believe to be a serious and important issue in the game". Alan Leighton, head of Prospect, told BBC Radio 5 live after Barnes' apology that he felt it was "half-hearted". He called on Barnes to receive a Uefa-type coaching ban, which is more than a touchline ban. Leighton later told BBC Sport: "We think that the attack on Poulton was an attack on his professionalism, struck at the heart of his professionalism and was totally unwarranted. "Since then we believe he has broadened out that attack to talk about the fitness of other referees and hasn't retracted that main allegation that Poulton was unfit. "Some people suggest it is us picking on Daniel. I'm not interested in previous. If this had gone unchecked, other managers would have felt able to make similar slurs and that fundamentally brings the game into disrepute."

 Mundy issues ultimatum to players

Whiteparish manager Tim Mundy has admitted he is running out of patience with certain players after his side's disappointing start to the season. Their 8-0 defeat at home to Royal Oak leaves Parish bottom in Division 1, having yet to win a game so far. "We're 2 games in now and I've given them that chance," Mundy told Spire F.M. "I can't just keep doing it. "Things are going to have to change "They've got to decide if they're good enough for this league. "If they're not good enough fine but if they think they're good enough they've got to start showing me and giving me more. "I need players to either perform now, or be honest with me and say maybe Division One is a bit too much." " I need to get players in who are good enough to keep us in this league."  "At the moment no wins out of two isn't good enough," said Mundy.

Harris to stay on at Whiteparish

Whiteparish chief executive Rob Harris has confirmed that he will stay on at the first division club. Harris had been considering his future after his recent takeover attempt at The Memorial Ground failed at the last minute. But Harris confirmed: "I'm staying and I want to keep working hard for this football club. I don't want to be anywhere else."  And a ground-swell of support from the club's fans influenced Harris' decision. "I've had hundreds of emails of support from fans. You don't expect that and that helped with my decision, without doubt," he said. "A lot of people took the time to contact me with nice messages of support. They didn't have to do that. It was greatly appreciated. "There were others who clearly don't want me to stay. But on the whole, a lot of people have given me kind words."

Managers Do their bit for the community

Joint Managers Tim Mundy and Daniel Barnes put someting back into the community, making guest apperances at the annual fete Mundy even slipping on the Goalkeepers gloves on for the penalty shootout. One youngster saying "it was my dream to meet these two they have been my favourite players since i was old enough to watch football. I even have a Barnes 2 whiteparish shirt hung up on my bedroom wall." the only let down of the day was the non apperance of David Hughes who had promised to be there as part of meet and greet with the two Whiteparish superstars. Daniel later said "the day was a great chance for the fans to come and spend some time meeting us, seeing and being able to hold the league trophy and getting autographs." "yes it was a shame David couldn't be here today with us, i know there was one fan inparticular that wanted to meet his footballing hero but thats the way life goes. Its tough being a famous footballer!"

Parish keen to help 2018 bid

Whiteparish's executive chairman Stuart Dear feels The Memorial Ground could be used as a World Cup venue if England is chosen to host the 2018 tournament. Laverstock's The Dell has already been identified as a possible venue even though redevelopment work at the ground has yet to start. Dear believes The Lions' stadium could be a suitable alternative. "We have shown our interest but it is not depending on us," Dear told Spire F.M. "Right now Laverstock look to be favourites but whether they get their act together, that is to be seen". A delegation from the FA recently visited Laverstock to assess its suitability to be a host city. Laverstock plan to expand the capacity of The Dell to 1,000.

Lamb aims to shine at Parish

Former Sparsholt midfielder and Parish top goal scorer Jon Lamb, wants to make up for lost time after his move to Whiteparish. Lamb signed a three-year deal for £4m at the end of May after a frustrating two years at Sparsholt and a four year lay-off. The 23-year-old, who has now declared for France, told Spire F.M: "It's never good to just sit on the bench and not get involved in the games. "So I am just happy to be here to get a new chance to show what I can do." He added: "Some things happened during the games, there where people said negative things about me. It was an up and down six months." Lamb made his first start for the Sparsholt Spurs in the 1-0 League win at Alton in November 2003. On Sunday, the Romsey-born player is set to Feature at home to Wilton Club in a bottom-of-the-table clash. Both clubs are without a point so far this season.

  Barnes pleads for more signings

Whiteparish joint boss Daniel Barnes says his side are not strong enough to survive in Division 1 unless he is given the money to sign more players. The Lions have spent about £5m on new players since winning promotion, but Barnes wants to sign more new faces before the transfer window closes. "We are not equipped for Division 1 as things stand now," he said. "If this team is to stay up, we need more quality. We still need at least three more players." He added: "Somehow we have to find the money for that."  Former player/manager O'Donnell led his side to automatic promotion last season as they finished champions, and he has since been sacked as manager but continues to play. In came Barnes and Mundy who brought in the likes of Joe Jacobs, Jonny Lamb and Lee Betteridge in an attempt to strengthen their squad. He insists he needs more cash. Barnes is being hindered in his preparations for the new season by an injury crisis which has ruled out Tom Mundy, Chris Smith (personal reasons) and Richard Dacosta, "we will do our very best and draw on all of our experience to keep us in Division 1 but we are definitely a little short of investment," added Barnes.

New Board

Despite the most successful season in a number of years Whiteparish F.C have announced that they have slipped deeper into financial trouble. At the clubs AGM meeting the club made the announcement that three of the whiteparish board members will be stepping down after rumours that the three who we cannot name for legal reasons have been 'filling their pockets' with the clubs cash. After Sir John Stacey announced at the meeting that he will be stepping down at the end of the season as the clubs chairman Whiteparish have been in a series of meetings and could finally appoint Stuart Dear as the Lions new Chairman. Dear then announced to the media he would be bringing in his brother Geoff Dear as club secretary. Former Lions player Geoff is said to be delighted with his new role in the club. The club also had to make the announcement of the new treasurer who will be Whiteparish's new joint manager Daniel Barnes. Barnes replaces Darryl Parsons who is still under police investigation after a late night brawl in the Kings Head, owner Sir John told Whiteparishf.c.com "that this is not the way a person at the helm of one of footballs giants should be behaving!" The owner was left with no option, and promptly fired Parsons from his position.

Parish rocked by injury to Dacosta

Lion's defender Richard "jazz" Dacosta will be out of action for a further eight or nine months after suffering a setback in his bid to return from injury. The 38-year-old defender has been sidelined since May with a knee ligament problem and will have surgery in the United States next week. "It's a big blow for Jazz and a big blow for us," said Parish manager Daniel Barnes. Dacosta led the Lions into the first division in 2009. The defender missed more than a year of action for Whiteparish four seasons ago after knee surgery. "He has had a setback with regards to his long-term problem," stated Barnes. "He is flying across to Colorado on Monday to undergo that surgery. Hopefully the scenario will be rehabilitation and back within eight or nine months. "We have had long discussions about it. He is in the last year of his contract and has tried desperately to try to get another one. In that inimitable fashion of his he is trying to prove people wrong." Dacosta suffered the injury playing against New Sarum and missed the final three games of last season.

 NEW DEAL FOR O'DONNELL

Whiteparish midfielder Sean O'Donnell is poised to ease the pain of the Charity C Cup Final defeat against Bemerton by signing a new five-year deal at The Memorial Ground. The 30-year-old is at an advanced stage in talks and is expected to join defenders Daniel Lumber and Charlie Evans in committing his future shortly. O'Donnell joined Parish on loan from Harnham in 2006. He completed a permanent move before the start of the following season and has been a regular ever since. The Scotsman has been instrumental in Whiteparish finishing first in the Division 2. O'Donnell played in Whiteparish's 2-1 defeat at Wick Lane in the Charity C Cup where Jody Rivers's penalty winner settled a contest played in blistering heat.Whiteparish's new joint managers Daniel Barnes and Tim Mundy see securing the midfielder on a fresh long-term contract as integral to their plans for progress after reaching the Division 1 by finishing 1st and reaching their second major final. Player of the year Hope, also agreed a new five-year contract after only one year at the club. Hope said "I love this team we're a family, and i cant wait to give the best defenders in Divison 1 a real head ache!".

Lamb to fight for Lions place

Whiteparish midfielder jon Lamb has admitted he must keep performing to stay in the team because of the increased competition for places. Lamb started alongside Craig Wallington upfront in the 7-0 thumping to Broughton last thursday, while Skipper David Stacey had to be content with a cameo from the bench. "Everyone in the squad will play a part," Lamb told Spire FM. "The team is going to be pretty settled but there will be changes. If you're playing well, you'll stay in the team."

 Males named as vice captain

A few names had been thrown into the hat for position of vice captain, but Rob Males came up trumps with Daniel Barnes and Tim Mundy believing that males can do a good job as backup to Club Captain Dave Stacey. We understood that Daniel Lumber and Sean O'Donnell were also in the running for the position. O'Donnell had this position before he became Lions manager last year.

Burchmore Caught Sleeping Rough After Late Night Shouting Match

Whiteparish superstar, Daniel Burchmore was caught sleeping rough in a tent earlier this morning after rumours circulated about a late night fall out between the bi-sexual and girlfriend Jenna Hiett. The reason behing the falling out is thought to be that a number of Whiteparish players disrupted Jenna sleeping, as she tried to catch up on some much needed sleep after her night shift at Salisbury District Hospital. Daniel is reported to be seen on his hands and knees outside their Wilton Road flat, screaming Jenna's name at the top of his voice. This is an untimely bust up for Burchmore, who has only recently dug himself out of trouble with Jenna after a string of boozey nights out.

Parker Comeback Put On Hold

Whiteparish goalkeeper Sam parker may have to be put his comeback from injury on hold. The 21-year-old has had operations on both knees in the past year in a bid to cure tendinitis and there were hopes he would be back at the end of September. But Parker, whose last game was in September 2008, is out of the start of the season, which raises new concerns. "We had hoped he would be joining us but he is still in rehabilitation," said Parish boss Tim Mundy. "He has had major operations on both knees and we are not rushing that." Parker is currently in the United States being treated by renowned knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman. It has been a frustrating spell at The Memorial Ground for the English born goalkeeper, who last played for the parish in the 4-0 demolition of The Ale House on 21 September 2008. Parker had surgery on his right knee last November and on his left knee in January, with the procedures carried out under the guidance of Steadman. The leading surgeon has previously operated on former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer and ex-Lion Defender Rich Hamblin, who is now at Retired. Parkers' rehabilitation has had to be a long and delicate process, with The Salisbury Journal revealing in June that he could be forced to quit top-level football in the next two years if the chronic knee problem were to persist. His condition, patellar tendinitis, can be described as inflammation of the tendon that attaches the quadriceps (thigh muscle) to the tibia (shin bone).

Mers meets 'Mr Whiteparish'

Paul Merson is said to be delighted after bumping into his footballing idol Dave 'goal a game' Stacey. Stacey was at a the Big Brother 10 launch party over the weekend. Merson said on stacey look at him he's one of fashions biggest icons and he's also my best footballer at the moment the way he plays reminds me of my former team mate Ian Wright. Stacey also met with his footballing idol Ray Parlour at the Big Brother 10 launch.

The Men Who Make Parish Beautiful

It is perhaps not surprising that Whiteparish's Charlie Evans believes he plays with the two best footballers on earth. After all, the likes of Tom Mundy Stacey, Craig Wallington and Joe Hope have scored an incredible 97 goals between them this season. But Evans is not talking about Parish's 'Holy Trinity'. He is instead referring to the two men he watches weave their destructive patterns from Defence. According to Evans, they do not come any better than Lumber and Tim Mundy. "They are the two greatest in the world for me, I cannot speak highly enough of just how good they are," the 18-year-old said. "They are different players, but equally important to this Whiteparish team - don't ask me to choose between them because I couldn't. "The most important thing at Parish is the kind of football we play, beautiful football, and when Mundy and Lumber are on the ball everyone's having a good time - both on the pitch and on the sidelines." In a nutshell, that is what Whiteparish F.C is geared towards, and why in Mundy and Lumber they have two players who carry the philosophy of the football club onto the pitch. It is a philosophy that was born when English great Paul Cooper arrived in Whiteparish in the 1970s, became a fixture when Cooper returned as manager in the 1980s and now, thanks to Cooper's continued involvement in the club, is deeply entrenched. Football, Parish believe, should be dedicated to free-flowing attacking play - the kind of 'Total Football' that Cooper and his Lions colleagues produced in the 1970s to worldwide acclaim. Mundy and Lumber have been at Parish since they were 15 and 19 respectively and that message has been drummed into them since the day they arrived. It is a message based around ball retention, about superior technique, about lightning-quick passing and the ability to utilise wide open spaces on the pitch. "Receive, pass, offer, receive, pass, offer," is how Mundy recalls his education. Lumber, meanwhile, talks as if his talent is a side issue: "I am a child of the system, a pupil at the Whiteparish school of football." It is a system that has helped produce what many Salisbury and District League experts are calling the greatest Salisbury team since the Alderbury team of the 1950s.

Defender Dacosta on sex attack charge

A Division one defender has appeared in court over allegations he groped and punched a woman at a London nightclub. Whiteparish's defender Richard Dacosta, of totton, Hampshire, is said to have attacked the 20-year-old at the West End's Soho Revue Bar in December. He is accused of the sexual offence of "touching", as well as assault. Mr Dacosta, 34, appeared at Winchester Crown Court to deny both charges. He is due to stand trial on 26 October.
